Hi all,we run a Volvo 380E excavator which suffers from hydraulic noise and vibration when the hydraulic oil gets hot, until the oil gets hot the machine is perfect, has anyone else experienced this problem?or any ideas why?
Joan de joane curlew With what you shared, it sounds like your pulling air on the pump inlet (cavitation). Check the inlet screen for obstruction, the inlet tube and clamps for tight sealing and the tank breather for proper operation. Due to the noise, you may have some pump damage in process so an oil sample with particle count would be prudent. Best wishes....
Good day Quarryrob Have you compared your machine to similar machines or is this your gut feeling ? K.Regards Uffex
More information Hi all. This was a new machine this year,is just coming up to 1000hrs and the problem was reported shortly after delivery, various people have been out to the machine and have agreed it shouldn't be like it is, The machine was taken away and damper pipes installed on the hydraulic system, which has reduced the noise and vibration dramatically ,but it's still there once the hydraulic oil reaches 50 degrees and it gets louder and more vibration as it gets hotter, this noise is mainly on the boom function We also have had from new a 380D which has done 5500 hrs which has never suffered any problems, and still works smooth and quiet, Are any other owners, operators, experiencing similar issues ?
It still sounds like cavitation to me. High flow demand (filling a pair of the biggest cylinders on the machine) requires high volume of oil. If it can't get enough oil, it will pull air. Just to be sure, I'm assuming your running the proper viscosity and grade of oil right? If cavitation, the noise should be even more pronounced with multi-function control (i.e. - Boom up, arm out, curl in during swing). Cheers!
Good day Quarrymob Please see attached Kind regards Uffex View attachment Pump noise.pdf
Sure it's the pumps? Check cooler bypass valve?
Hi all, thanks very much for all the suggestions ,did check suction pipe clips and all are tight, air vent seems to be working fine, the noise and vibration that comes when you use the boom function is worse when you are just feathering the service (like when you're gradeing ,or bottoming up the dig,) if the joystick is fully back the noise is less.you don't need to have a bucket full of muck, it will do it with a empty bucket which suggest it isn't pressure related but to do with flow, i think. Hydraulic pumps have been changed! Thanks again all.
Is there an accumulator in the pilot system? Check the pilot system for fluctuations? Thinking you may be getting some main valve spool fluctuations induced by the pilot system, just a thought.
Sounds to me like some auxiliary function value is getting stuck. Does the engine sound like it is pulling a little bit of a load when that happens. Some times a stethoscope works in narrowing down the noise. I have one you touch to metal which sometimes helps. A while back a friend had some kind of electric doo-hickey that you just pointed to an area and you could narrow down where the sound was the loudest.
Result!! Happy days!! Hi all, just an update on the problem with our Volvo 380 E,solved,it was a faulty return valve on the pipe to the cooler, totally different machine now ! Smooth and quiet just like you would expect a Volvo excavator to be! Thanks for everyone's help. Rob
