We are having trouble with shifting the truck into drive after dumping a load at the dumpsite. Acts like it has no power to move itself but if you feel the lack of power and put the truck in neutral and cycle the key off and on then place it in drive the truck acts normal. Has anyone experienced this problem. The other day we couldn't get the truck to shift into reverse after numerous times we drove it in drive for a bit and then it shifted into reverse. I have taken the filters out of the transmission and they look great, oil smells good, and oil levels are good. Any suggestions????

a 25 c apx 1996 year model
Sounds like it's going into "Limp" mode maybe, are you getting any lights or error warnings at all? Could be a wire harness issue.....
no error codes no warning lights did check part of the harness plugs today for corrosion but I am with you didn't make it a full time project today had helpers strip off panels and I did testing from the service manual on shifter . but worked on other eq most of the day read on manual while the rest were at lunch . will get in to it soon if it stays wet . just thought some one else may have been through this in the past ???
Check for dirt under the throttle peddle as this can hold the engine speed above 900 rpm that will stop gear selection if this is good then check the load monitor control settings on the injector pump linkage under the hood? tctractors
rpm are low ok . linkage free . linkage good to the load control by the inj pump. but you just made think I didn't check the plug in there .will look and see what the service book says that control ?????
Is the linkage to the monitor control set within Spec Low / High position, then if this is found good doe's the Anti Gas throttle control cylinder work correctly? as this can indicate power supply trouble, in amongst this lot it might be worth checking the charging and battery condition, don't just look at the wires on the generator give them a tug about, the key barrel is also a drama thing on Volvo's I always keep a good 1 handy as gear control power is hooked into the switch, as a matter of interest what RPM is the engine running at for Low Idle. tctractors
I'm with tc if you have access to an ignition barrel try one have had similar issues and they are prone to playing up
got to work on it some today rpm @ idle 670 load control is set correct and tested it as per service book anti throttle dose work this truck is new enough it has a information decoder checked fuse in it .ground wire to the decoder was broken fix that the red light on the decoder never came on and still cant get any information on transmission out of the contronic information display on transmission error code . talked to driver today found out problem is enterment and he said he could put truck lever in neutral shut off key then the truck would work for a unknown amount of time . voltage displayed on contronic was 26.2 volts ordered a key switch will try that thanks for the help so far all
