Volvo EC240BLC wont auto throttle, or show fuel guage

Ron engesether · 2020-07-30 14:30

2006 Volvo EC240blc, Serial number EC240V80200 Excavator was working perfect, i shut it off and when i went start it would not start in auto mode. found some damaged wires under machine that some debris had hit, pulled that part of harness and repaired wires assuming this would solve problems. still would not start or operate in auto mode, and still no fuel level showing on display. After checking wire harness plug we found some corrosion that harness was connected to VECU to arm rest area, we cleaned up corrosion and machine starts fine in either auto or manual mode. But my Fuel gauge does not work or Auto idle or any throttle control, the machine will throttle up when i go to manual mode in fast setting. I have checked all fuses and relays all are good and working. Have also checked many other areas for possible wire breaks, have checked power on B plug on VECU leads 15,16 and they power on and off with toggling of manual, auto switch, have also checked grounds 7 and 8 all seem good, have also checked all harness plugs for corrosion and ground cables. Is there any other possible arias that i am missing or any thing else I can check. or any way i can prove the VECU is faulty.

Typically the loss of throttle control accompanied by no fuel gauge is a dead giveaway for a failed V-ECU. What instrument panel do you have. Is it LCD or 2 orange pointers and a bunch of lights. Where is your fuse panel, behind the cab or in the right armrest? If your fuse panel is inside, there is a relay box above the battery box behind a 4 bolt cover. In there, there is a relay for data and one for EMS. I suspect the data one might be loose or bad. Be mindful that there are 3 or 4 large Tyco connections beneath the relay box, prone to corrosion. That's all I got off the top of my head.

I worked on a problem similar to yours a while back. take the back off the iecu (instrument panel) and unplug the ribbon connector. If you get your throttle back then the iecu is bad. It will need to be programmed by your dealer. Water can get in and cause all kinds of problems.

Funwithfuel the fuse panel is behind cab, in separate compartment where iceu is and you can see the hydraulic pump not sure how to answer the display as I have not been in other Volvo’s the display is gray and when you turn key there is a bunch of lights. Has 4 or 5 grey pointer buttons on bottom you can cycle through like time and error codes and other info and one of buttons is a check mark.

to update paul and funwithfuel my machine does have a lcd display. the fuse box is outside the cab and behind it, and we have checked all the wiring harness, we have pulled off the ribbon cable on the lcd display and cant find anything wrong. and at the point we think its the vecu. does anyone have other suggestions. i see another post about sincomp on a 210. i have not checked with dealers on replacement. i see the vecu sells on amazon for about 650. do i purchase from amazon and have dealer come out and program? has anyone had a dealer not come out and program when they dont sell me the vecu?

I can't speak for your dealer. But I just programmed a controller for a customer that found one used instead of buying from us. Can't say that I blame him. He gave $500 instead of $3600. Funny thing is that he found one for the same machine and a few numbers off from his serial number. And mother Volvo wouldn't let it work until I programmed it to his serial number. These machines will not let you just throw in a ecm. It's got to have the right serial number or it will throw a data mismatch code and essentially turn off that ecm.
