I've got a 2006 Volvo EC700B LC machine that I just bought. It has the Volvo D16 engine in it. It has been giving us a fit. The only way it will start is on ether. After its started, it has to warm up about 30 minutes before you can get it to rev up at all and the only way that you can get it to rev up is by giving it ether. After you get it to rev up, you can move the selector switch in the cab and it adjusts the engine rpm accordingly. If you shut the machine off and restart it, moving the selector to adjust the rpm doesn't do a thing. The rpms never go above 650. If you give it another shot of ether the rpms go up like they should and then you can select the rpm you want and it adjusts rpm accordingly. After you shut it down and restart, the rpms won't increase until you give it another shot of ether. We have checked both check valves at the primer pump and the overflow valve.....they are working fine. Anybody got any ideas? Matt
Good day Matt May I ask what pressure do you have at the filter head when cranking (Should be about 5 bars any less it will not fire). A word of caution the magic spray can can cause one hell of an explosion if the preheat kicks in when the induction has taken either in. Please check the pressure and we will try to walk you through the problem. Kind regards Uffex
We are spraying ether at the turbo instead of at the pre-cleaner. I will check what the pressure is at the filter head. Matt
any sign of combustion gases in fuel? any error codes? what happens if you hand prime when trying to start? some more info may help find a solution, as uffex says it would be good to check fuel press but i belive you only need 3 bar at crank for unit to fire.
I assume a bad crank or cam sensor (even if there are no codes). unplug the crank sensor and check if you are able to start the engine, if you are able, then shut the engine and replug the sensor and give another try with the cam sensor unplug. Seems that one rpm signal missing. You need acurate reeding of both sensor to get it started, by spraying ether you probably showing more rpm at the E-ECU, making the engine to start.
