i recently came across a volvo lm845 articulated loader that is fitted with a perkins phaser engine, the owner tells me he believes it is original and even has a plate fitted that says "volvo powered by perkins" i can't find any internet evidence to support the above being original, can anyone back this up? anyone ever run one of these machines,i beleive they are a 70's model weighing around 10 ton,2 speed powershift,2/4 wheel drive, diff lock,hi/lo range, owner reckons it has a 3 cu.m bucket but i think more likely to be 2cu.m....are they any good? any info appreciated
that machine should be in a museum. there is a short video on the volvo web site that has the lm 845 in it.
Most likely original from the factory. Usually the LM 845 should have a Volvo D50 engine but poking around on the net it looks like atleast in Volvo's harvesters that were powered by the D50 it sometimes were replaced with a some kinda Perkins engine. I dont have time to find out what engine but it seems to be some kinda 6 cylinder one. I can dig more later if you are interested. Volvo got a great history site with lots of info for heavy equipment nerds. Link to the page about LM 845 : http://www.volvo.com/constructioneq...rs/Wheel+Loaders+BM-Volvo/BM-Volvo+LM+845.htm
plenty of life left in the old girl:drinkup
Hi Z I worked at Perkins and they did sell engines to Volvo, even though that deal is finished now. They were painted Volvo industrial green, badged Volvo, but if you look you will find Perkins part numbers on all the components and the Perkins symbol cast into the block.
