This truck is up for auction, and to me the pictures make it look too short for the sleeper, is there any way that thing would turn short with a trailer on, and not be into the bunk? https://www.purplewave.com/auction/170309/item/DA7318?gclid=CN2esNqmudICFROewAod5bMI9Q
Of course it will..... With the right trailer
It's a little short depending on what your going to use it for. It will be hard to load the steer axle. Not a bad truck I saw the specs on it-on that site. That would be an easy one to lengthen the frame. Truck Shop
A float with a 36" pin would be very close. Sure would have to watch it. A lowboy, shallow pin etc you'd be ok. It would get around your neck of the woods nice though. To load the steer axle you'd have to have the air lines between the seats! Lmao
There is a guy around here that has his own dirt business and uses a sleeper/lowboy combo. He even does outside moves with it so it must work OK for him and the roads are tight around here. Not as short as that one, though. The reason he has it is he goes to many fires in summer with his dozer on (full fire package with sweeps, guards, a/c and the works) and it is very nice to be able to sleep in a bed when off-shift, instead of in the dirt or looking for a motel somewhere when all the rooms are taken.
Take the bunk off, 4 bolts, maybe a heater line and a couple wires. Screw some tin on the hole or do it right. The truck is a A model and the bunk is a B model anyway.
Ah Ha, was wondering who would notice that sleeper was a later model. Truck Shop
I didn't notice what was wrong, but i stared at it for a bit.
Measure from the pin on the trailer to either front corner of the trailer. Measure from the fifth wheel to the center of the sleeper. That will tell you if there is clearance for the trailer to turn sharp. I like the looks of that box on it.
Keep in mind thats for a 90 degree angle. Ive seen all kinds of things smashed from going over what is thought safe.
That would be for a 45 degree turn with the corner of the trailer at the cab. On some trailers I suppose 90 could be worse. Also dropping a tire in a hole when turning sharp can certainly change things and tap a cab if clearances are close. One would have to be aware of that. I would want a few inches of clearance at least.
