hey fellas; i need some advice, my other property had a pretty bad flood. The water got about a foot over the cab on my 580e. when i pulled the plug off the engine filler tube about a gallon of water burst out. i drained approx. 5 gallons of water from the oil plug then about 2.4 gallons of oil finially drained out. i didn't know what to do, so i over filled it with new oil after flushing about a gallon of oil through it, hoping that would keep it somewhat safe till i got some advice. so i really have no idea what to do next :beatsme , anything you guys could tell me would be great. oh and i did search the forum, but didn't find anything, although i would guess there is a thread here somewhere, so even if some one has a link to another thread that would be great. thanks alot guys.
Here's a good thread How's all other oils?? hydraulic, shuttle, transaxle, ??
The Hydraulic and transaxle oils are fine as far as i can tell, i drained abit of each and didn't see any water. i didn't think to check the shuttle, im not even sure how to check it, guess i'll have to read through the service manual. i hope i'm right in thinking if no water comes out of the drain plug then it's water free? thanks alrman!
Flush the hell out of it, oil is cheaper than new pumps and valve blocks, or engines and trannys. You can probably save it if you didn't let it sit. Once you got that done, start flushing all the electrical stuff, starter, alternator, the worse bit; the dash. Insurance company I worked for would total everything that water got into the dash. All the relays, fuse panels, switches, lamps, you name it, it was toast. They tried to fix them, never worked. Always comebacks for weird electric gremlins. B-hoe is a lot simpler than a car, so you probably can fix it.
Thanks El Hombre, i'm gona give that a try in the morning. hope i didnt' wait too long.
Big job We had a tractor backhoe slide off a barge into 40 ft of water .Got it out and flushed everything three times .The machine runs perfect still up to this day but electrical is a continuous problem .Oh and by the way any time a machine is transported by barge your insurance is nill and void .Lucky it was a rental .Customer had to pay out of pocket
