wet system question

hello everyone, just joined up! im looking to buy a tractor to pull a live floor trailor.my question is about the psi coming out of the wet system pump.i was told by the trailer salesman that the trucks hydraulic pump must put out at least 2600 psi,in order to properly run the live floor.is this a above average psi rating for youre everyday truck?looked at a 86 or 87 pete today.has the 3406b in it,the pump is shaft driven off a pto on the side of the tranny.any ideas on what the psi could be on these older trucks?

Pressure depends on the application it was used for. I would say it likely makes enough, the only way to know for sure is either get the model of pump and look up the specs for it, or put a pressure guage on it. The other important thing is the flow rate. It does no good to make the pressure if the system flows so slowly it takes hours to unload, and also the same if it is too much, and you overwhelm the trailer. I plumbed a truck to pull a folding tail trailer or an end dump. The end dump wanted maximum flow, while the folding tail takes a max of I think 30 GPM. I had to instal a variable rate valve, and would open it all the way for the end dump, and close it to a certain setting, determined with a flow meter, for the folding tail. A good hudraulic shop will have the proper guages and flow meters to do this set up for you.

hey thanks for the reply,i figured that the pressure was only part of the puzzle.i think ill go back to the truck tomorrow and try to pull some numbers of the pump.
