what does the EX120 in hitachi ex120 excavator stand for?

i am working on a school project and need to know what the EX120 in the hitachi EX120 excavator stand for?

    The weight of the machine, 120=12 tons.Its an ISO standard. All modern excavators of most brands show there sizes like this except Cat who show the series number first then the size, ie, 320 is a series 3 -20 ton machine and not a 32 ton. Hope this helps and welcome to HEF.

    EX is the series designation , The previous series was UH and the current series is Zaxis
