What equipment uses the same tracks as the 955?

AllDodge ยท 2014-05-30 10:01

Reason for the question, just came across a set of new chains, for a case 650H for 2700 for both. Said they were new, never used and both look new in the pic

OK that one didn't, let me try another question: Does anyone know any of the specs for the 955 chains? Maybe the pin spacing and such?

Alldodge, are we talking about the 85J series mount? tctractors

Yes Sir, looking into replacing the chains

I'll post the info tomorrow. Haven't got my Custom Track service manual with me @ the moment.

When I was looking, it seemed only D4 links were the same, forget which D4. IIRC, the pitch is 6.75". Edit: Now I think it's 6.91", so ignore this post. I don't have my track manual handy either, have to wait for Nige. Looked online a little, can't find anything.

Thanks and sorry but I'm not understanding the terminology , Does pitch equate to distance from pin to pin, and don't understand the reference to IIRC and D4 links.

IIRC - acronym for "If I recall correctly" ......... All Low Sprocket versions of the D5, D5B, 951, 955, & 561 use the same track link, although the number of links in the chain will vary from one model to another. The chain pitch (pin centre to pin centre) is 6.91"/175.5mm. Later models than the above use 8.0" pitch track chains which will not fit an 85J-prefix 955. Don't get confused. D4 tractors equipped with SystemOne undercarriage use 6.91" pitch track chains, but those chains would be no good on a 955. The chain for D4 tractors that use "conventional" undercarriage is 6.125" pitch.

That helps a bunch. I'll see about making a bolt pattern temp plate of my 955 pad and ask the guy who is selling the Deere 650H chains about the pin to pin distance so I can decide if they are worth taking a look at.

    Rail pitch for the machines of question should not be the same, the Deere should be 6.75 and the 955L either 6.906(5/8" bolts) or 7.984(3/4" bolts) MODEL: Caterpillar D6C,D6C LGP,D6D, D6D LGP, 955L, 963 (old), 963 LGP (old), 235 Specs: Track Pitch = 7.984", Link Height = 128mm, Bushing O.D. = 66.7mm Bolt Hole = 3/4" Serial Nos: D6C: 41A, 71A, 73A, 74A, 76A, 82A, 83A, 96A, 46J1-196, 47J1-398, 55J, 56J,17R, 69U, 69J1-257, 99J1-336, D6C: 10K1-929, 26K1-263 (36 LK) D6C: 46J197 -Up, 47J399 -Up, 69J258 -Up, 99J 337 -Up, 10K930 -Up, 26K264 -Up, 23U (36 LK) D6C LGP: 90B1 -Up, 69U1 -Up, 49W1 -Up (41 LK) D6D: 3X, 4X, 19X, 20X, 30X, 31X, 74W1-1148, 75W1-1796 (36 LK) D6D LGP: 6X, 32X, 33X (41 LK) 955L: 85J10129 -Up, 64J10441 -Up, 71J6181 -Up, 13X, 8Y, 57M (36 LK) 963: 29S1-1126, 6Z1-1555, 18Z1-1352 (37 LK) 963 LGP: 11Z1-672, 21Z1-318, 48Z1-185 (37 LK) MODEL: Caterpillar D5, D5 LGP, D5B, D5B LGP, 951C, 953 , 953 LGP, 955K, 955L Specs: Pitch = 6.906", Link Ht = 103.2 mm, Bushing OD = 58.738 mm , Bolt Diameter = 5/8" Serial Nos: D5: 51H, 52H, 81H, 82H, 83H, 84H, 37J, 50J, 54J, 62J, 63J, 67J, 68J, 93J, 94J, 95J, 96J, 97J, 9M (39 LK) 6-S/F Rollers, 6-D/F Rollers, 4-Carrier Rollers D5LGP: 98A, 6R, 12R (46 LK) 6-S/F Rollers, 8-D/F Rollers, 4-Carrier Rollers D5B: 22X1-Up, 23X1-Up, 24X1-Up, 25X1-Up, 43X1-Up, 44X1-Up, 47X1-Up, 48X1-Up, 8MB1-Up (39 LK) 6-S/F Rollers, 6-D/F Rollers, 4-Carrier Rollers D5BLGP: 45X1-Up, 46X1-Up, 49X1-Up (46 LK) 6-S/F Rollers, 8-D/F Rollers, 4-Carrier Rollers 951C: 32F902-Up, 19H-Up, 69H-Up, 86J-Up, 63K-Up (39 LK) 955K: 48H, 53H, 61H, 31J, 57J, 64J1-10440, 71J1-6180, 85J1-4671 (4ILK) 955L: 85J4672-10128 (41LK) 6-S/F Rollers, 6-D/F Rollers, 2-Carrier Rollers 953: 76Y -Up, 77 Y 1-1394, 78Y -Up (40LK) 953LGP: 5Z -Up, 20Z1-243, 44Z -Up (40 LK) MODEL: John Deere 555G, 650G, 650H, 650J, 605C Loader Specs Pitch = 6.75", Link Ht = 95.2 mm, Bushing OD = 53.8 mm, Bolt Diameter = 5/8" Serial Nos: 555G: (36 LK) 6- S/F Rollers, 4-D/F Rollers, 2-Carrier Rollers 555G-WT: (36 LK) 6- S/F Rollers, 6-D/F Rollers, 2-Carrier Rollers 650G: (38 LK) 6- S/F Rollers, 6-D/F Rollers, 2-Carrier Rollers 650H: (38 LK) 6- S/F Rollers, 6-D/F Rollers, 2-Carrier Rollers 650H-LT: (38Lk) 8-S/F Rollers, 6-D/F Rollers, 2-Carrier Rollers 650H-XLT: (40LK) 8-S/F Rollers, 6-D/F Rollers, 2-Carrier Rollers 650J: (38Lk) 6-S/F Rollers, 6-D/F Rollers, 2-Carrier Rollers 650J XLT: (40Lk) 8-S/F Roller, 6-D/F Roller, 2-Carrier Roller 605C Loader - *Confirm Number of Links & Quantity of Rollers* This came out of a aftermarket catalog I have access to. To measure pitch, from the front edge of any given pin, measure back (while tight) to the front of the fifth pin away, this will measure across four full links, take that number and divide by four, will give the current worn measurement for the rail pins/bushings.

    Thanks very much

Just went out and measured across the links and came up with 35 1/2 on one side and 35 1/4 on the other. So it looks like I have the 7.984 links and mine are worn out at 8.875 and 8.812 inches. The bolt heads are 3/4 inch. From what I have read in Wikipedia my S/N was in the initial change over from the K to the L model
