So what is your edge over the competition ? Are you a better estimator/bidder ? Do you have better equipment ? Do you serve a niche that has little competition ? Do you have lower costs ? What is your secret to making money in the heavy equipment industry ?

We make sure our work is perfect or close to it. reputation is one of the most important things for business. A few years ago we did a government job and the design engineer was so impressed with us that when he able to he just gives us the work and he recommends us to other firms.WE WILL NOT WORK JUST TO WORK!!. i have also found that appearance is kinda imporatant also. We keep late model equipment AND TAKE CARE OF IT. If a custumer see's that you dont take good care of your equipment why should they think that you will take good care of them. We dont work cheap,we dont work expensive,we treat the firms and companies we work for very fairly. bidding is also important,if you cant "visualize" a project and the process involved in doing the project you will not do good estimating.

Diversification. We don't just rely on moving dirt exclusively. Demolition, trucking, sand and gravel, roll-offs, utility installation, farm drainage, highway construction, and yes, the dreaded snow removal. We're always working, whether it's fit or not, so there is always some income coming in.

I completely agree with you Reuben. I beleive in being as perfect as possible and keeping a clean site. Rumors about poor work spread twice as fast as rumors about good work.
