what kind of trailer is required for moving a house?

Des ยท 2012-03-02 19:45

We are trying to rescue a house & move it by April 1, 2012- otherwise it will be demolished. We have a friend with an 18-wheeler who has moved houses before. We need to know what kind of trailer is needed (house is 32x32x29 frame built in late 1800's & is sound), how much they rent for, and where one can be procured? The friend is having financial difficulties, so we think it best to know in advance what actual costs are. We are in NW Colorado- and house will be moved about 8-9 miles on flat rd. one minor slope on county rd before setting it on temp. foundation.'Anyone know what kinds of costs are appropriate for such a move, besides basic equipment costs? Thanks

Depending how far the house mover has to come from. Your price would be anywhere from $7000 to $15000 plus line lift services. Any underpasses have to routed around. 32 wide will mean stopping trafic before intersections. Overhead signs are chalanging. Do it your self you will need 2 sets of 40ft steel beams no smaller than 12" 60lbs per ft should do it. And 2 set of dollys, 1/2 inch chain's more than 4 15ft. House jacks, Half a trailer of 4ft 6x6 blocks and more than a few 8 footers. Their is more way more. But if your buddy as moved houses than he will know. But if he has moved modulare or house trailers he may not. muzy

A couple had an old house moved a few years back. the house was bought really cheap. It was also a 100 plus year old house. I was setting on a full basement. I watched them for about a week as they were moving it from the original foundation site, to get it ready to move. They slid it sideways some how, then jacked it up to put the dollies under it. It sat for about a month due to the original route not being approved. Their house needed to be moved about 10 miles, but due to obstacles. They had to do a 25 mile move. Trees had to be butchered to get the house down the streets, power lines, railroad crossing signals and traffic signals had to be moved. Engineering for bridge loading. Then the setting of the house onto the new basement. after all the expense they said it would have been about the same to build new.
