These pictures were taken while I was doing some hauling in Texas. I just dont get it!
Why bother? -Eric
There are a lot of trucks like this in west Texas. Guys come over from Dallas and spend the week hauling then go home on the weekends. These guys are the lowballers that are driving the prices way down in that area. You really have to prove yourself if you want anything more that $45/hr. That truck is one of the best looking "dump sleepers" in the area. Most of the other trucks are from the 50's-60's with bent frames, bald tires and screamin Detroits. I dont know how they pass a DOT inspection. :usa:usa:usa:usa:usa
That's job security!!! :lmao
Ya we're Unique down here it the guys from way down south.
So how do they make it work....add a hoist and a couple of hinges on the end? Do they do it for their slow times, then remove the box for regular hauling? With such a small box, he can't be hauling very much, can he? I'd call it ingenuity, but if they're lowballing just to get a load, I can see where it would hurt others in the business.
SWEEEET ride!
why should you pay them more then 45 an hour esp if its a long haul, aint gonna haul much. why put a box on?????????/ if you want to keep the sleeper and have a tractor why not get a dump trailer? i think theres something in the water down there
It ain't for long hauls that is a dump truck they sleep in the truck over night instead of getting a room or they bring friend and/or family with them. End dumps and such are just about worthless around here with all the wet clay. My guess it that is a 12yd box the sleeper just makes it look small.
There's a lot of those trucks in Anchorage. Over the roaders haul snow for the city in the winter when freight is slow. Looks funny to see decked out long nose Petes with double sleepers and short boxes. Most have side boards as high as is legal. They load them from the rear with a snow blower.
what I want to know is...looking at the first picture..why do you pack a roll of duct tape with you, and leave it on the dash? looks to me like the truck is a Freightliner columbia (probably Detroit eng), duct tape doesn't stick to well to oil coated surfaces...
The duct tape is for patching up the upholstery!!
makes sense to me...you have a job 200 miles away, haul your machine there on a tag, run the dumptruck on site, then forget the hotel room and sleep in the truck so your the first on the job site the next morning
No, no, no. The truck is actually a 2002 International 9200. The screws holding the dashboard down have all stripped out and the duct tape works nicely as a weight to keep everything from rattling and driving me crazy. If you let the tape sit in the sun for a little while, the adhesive flows out a little and the roll actually secures itself to the dashboard. Now, I dont have to worry about it sliding during corners. Redneck engineering at its finest!:usa
