hey, im not sure if this is the right forum to put this in but here it goes! im currently in a rut. let me tell you about myself first. i statred out about 6years ago laboring and running some equipment, trackhoes, loaders, dozers etc. prior going to heavy equipmet traing school. i left the company about a year and a 1/2 later and went to a union/non-union company where i got to run and got taught by good operators on bigger peices such as scrapers, bigger blades and bigger hoes. needless to say the company went out of bussiness, before they went out i left and went to a company that was onf the top rated companies in pa for a couple of years as a small employer, needless to say the employed over 400 people. i go hired 2 and a 1/2 years ago quittig this past spring. i got hired as mass trackhoe operator, and i loved at 21 years old running a 345 it was great. the following winter i decided i wanted to dig for pipe so at 22 i got the privalge to dig with an excellent crew and learned alot and loved it, but we did a lot of residential work, but all types of pipe work, im not a big fan of resdential work. so, all of this brings me up to where im confused, this past spring i left the comapny and went to work fro a local contrator in my area and got promised the world a new truck better pay the whole nine yards havent seen a dam thing yet. so i recently went and took my uinon test and passed the hoe test but didnt do so good on the track loader test(dont have alot of seat time on it like i do on the hoe). so i can enroll next june for the preticeship or ive been looking into a major earthmoving company out of des moines iowa, that do alot of mass and heavey highway work. i odnt mine travling and right not im still young and eager to learn, dont have family yet, and theres nothing holding me back in easten pa.so my question is what do i do. im leaning towards the iowa company but id like to here some positive feedback im kinda lost at this point. thnaks sorry its so long jordan

You are the only one that knows that answer. Seems to me like you are a straggler. You'll work for one company, get bored with them and then go somewhere else. What about in eastern PA do you live ?

Well I assume that the company you are talking about is Mcaninch. If so the only thing I can say is be prepared to travel cause you won't be in Des Moines much. They have done quite abit of work here in Missouri and all the equipment I have seen has been real nice, everything had cab and air. I would say it is a first rate operation. Goodluck.

Working in dirt is like working anywhere else. The more you move around, the more starting at the bottom keeps coming up. Stick with a good company and move up with them. Bailing out of one operation and moving to another makes it almost impossible to gain ground in the ranks. While you might gain experience in a certain area with one copmany where you wouldn't have in another, you're to the point now where you need to settle down and get some roots grounded.
