Pretty interesting project. In all they are adding 500 miles of coastline to their waterfront. The UAE is awash with arab money with the increase in oil prices and is a pretty decadent place with lots of western influences such as casinos, worlds largest indoor ski slope, huge shopping malls... pretty prominent target for Al Quaeda in the future no doubt

ENR did a pretty good job writing about the development of Palm Island and has a number of related stories about the boom in Dubai. It's pretty fascinating stuff. There are several islands under construction. I guess the sea is very shallow for quite some distance off shore. They're building other crazy things like indoor ski hills. Guess the United Arab Emerites can see the end of its oil reserves, so they decided they'd better find another revenue source. They chose leisure/tourism. Sounds like they're turning the whole country into an amusement park for the super-rich. L
