Hey Robump, Just to get an idea, how much experience do you have with dozers and heavy equipment in general?

Hey every one, i am collecting information about D8 and D9 models. Can you tell me wich one is better, and why there is big difrrence in the price between the chinese Dozers and the US ones?

Ilia, It is not about whether a D8 or a D9 is better. It is about the application for the machine. Very simple reason why the difference between US built dozers and chinese. The chinese stuff is junk. Pure plain and simple it is junk. There are several other threads with tons of posts on here about the quality of everything from toothpaset, dog food, steel and every other chinese product there is. On top of the worst quality of any industralized country in the world the chinese do not offer support for anything they build once they have your money.

There are 4 prefixes of D8R, 2 each for Series I & Series II. D8R Series I prefix 9EM has a 3406C engine - reliable & plenty of parts available. D8R Series I prefix 7XM has a 3406C engine but also retrofits exist with a C15 engine. Depends on whether you want something easily repairable (3406) or you need modern technology in which case you go for one equipped with the C15 repower. D8R Series II prefix 6YZ was originally equipped with a 3406E engine, the last (& some say best) iteration of the venerable 3406 before it was retired and replaced by the C15. D8R Series II prefix AKA was the final version of the D8R and also equipped with a 3406E engine. Same comments as above. If I was looking aty something used the prior service history of the machine and hours on all the major components (including undercarriage) would be the first thing I'd ask for. If the seller can't supply that basic info - walk away.

In my opinion, for what that is worth, the D-8R in general, and the series II in particular, will be looked back on as the best ever in the D-8 series. The newer machines are too polluted with electronics to ever be reliable, and the emissions engines I do not believe will ever perform like the 3406E. They make the power, but just won't last.
