Whats a clam?

Alexp08 ยท 2016-12-24 17:35

I was talking to a guy about a case580sk and he said it had a "clam and extend-a-hoe". What is a clam? Thanks! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk

Front bucket that opens like a clam ? Couple hydraulic cylinders on it.

For a purely loader function, a clam is not the best choice. It is a heavy bucket. For every other function it's a godsend. The original clam, the DROTT SKID SHOVEL was better still Willie

For a multi-function tractor, a clam can be very useful for things like loading, grading, grabbing and such. But now you have three cutting edges to maintain, an extra set of hoses and valves, a lower capacity bucket and more weight. But you can always put on a GP bucket, but it is nice have the dozer function. Howard

That is sometimes slang for a woman, you might want to look into this and ask for pics!

My friend was going to attach a wench to the front of his Jeep. I thought he'd get arrested. He agreed to put a winch there instead. Willie

A clam bucket makes it easy to doze with a loader Cat. On at least the JDs you set the loader down on the stops with the clam open and simply tilt the bucket a bit forward or back to adjust the cutting depth. Makes the loader very solid when dozing.

Did your friend use a Swench to tighten the bolts so the wench would be secure? If not, you might need a winch to get her out of the deep ravine.
