Certain places in Arizona, around Pheonix I think, are exploding. The growth in Arizona as a whole, let alone these "pockets" of growth has been tremendous. I have a friend that's going to school in Glendale and he says the building and economy is nuts, minus the way low minimum wage.

As much as I hate to say it Socal is the best place I have been for work. Tons of work you would have no problem finding a job here. I will even give you the two places I have worked for that I bet will hire you on the spot I bet.

i am born and raised here in arizona. the little farming town(Buckeye) i grew up in, now is set to become the second largest city in az. in the next thirty years. it is crazy. truthfully i was hesitant to respond to this thread. i really get sick when i go by some of our best farmland in this valley and now it is growing houses!!! any way yes there is plenty of work here. wages are low, due mainly to being a right to work state and plenty of illegal workers to keep the wages down. operators on construction sites with couple years experience $16 an hour and up. scrapers hands (a.k.a cowboys) $18/hr. and up. blade hands start at about the same as scrapers for rough blade and on up for finish blade. most i heard for finish blade was 30/hr. now there are alot of good companies out here and alot of shady ones also. i personally got sick of open cab equipment and different job sites every day . also was sick of changing companies every 6-12 months. so i took a position at a landfill, decent hourly rate, unbelievable insurance, well kept and cabbed equipment lol,big fish in a little pond(another lol ) great bosses. almost too good to be true. so even though i am tired of seeing the farmland and desert be consumed by houses. come on out ,i cant stop everyone anyway, and at least you are a member of this great forum!!!!! take care and good luck in your relocation plans. hope i didnt sound to bitter!:crying

The reason i was interested in Phoenix was this company i found Called Rummel Construction... the website looks really good, here is the link http://www.rummelconstruction.com/main2.html . thanks for your feed back. its great.....

oh the mighty rummel! lots of work, if you can run a scraper or at least say you can run a scraper they will usually start you off at 16/ hr. sometimes 18 /hr. if you are a equipment operator in the phoenix area you have proably worked for rummel at least once. lot of big residential jobs. i will find some links to other companies for you also.

Farmerted,we flew down there over the Christmas holidays,to spend it with the old folk(parents)who'd recently retired, and decided to flee from the cold up here. They're holding out in Apache Juction(east of Phoenix).I thought while I was there that it sure could get easy to get use to 70 degrees at Christmas.I bet it gets like an oven there in the summer though, huh?? 100+?? It did seem like there was alot of building/construction going on,around there too.It sure makes a guy think"I don't need no stinking snow!!"

i grew up west of phoenix, little town called buckeye. the housing boom is going full blast on this side of town. here is a picture of a field just south of where those scrapers are working. now rember this is Feb. how about all that sun and green. i bet you never imagined the desert like this.

Only advice I can offer is to avoid Tucson like the plague - most of the local contractors seem pretty shady. Lots of horror stories about several of them. I did enjoy running around in an articulated truck for a few days with Borderland though. If the small towns suit you, the mines are in a big hiring swing now. Construction on the Phelps Dodge Safford project and the Quadra Carlota project should both be firing up in the near future as well. Aker Kvaerner will more than likely be the general, with the dirt being farmed out to subs.

  15. #15farmerted442006-02-17 23:11

hey D10 any idea of the subs that got the dirt work? i like where i am at now but always looking for a better opportunity. at least i wouldnt have to leave the state. proably come home on weekends. let me know if you find anything out. thanks!!

  16. #16D10N2006-02-18 00:30

As far as Safford goes, it'll be anyone's guess. Probably a biggie like Wheeler or Ames. On Carlota (just up the road near Globe), I'd put even money on Dalmolin Excavating getting it. They're usually the "front line" contractor for that area. Good guys to work with too - small, family owned outfit. Quadra says they want to start construction no later than this summer, and it's in a pretty rough area, so there'll be a whole lot of material to move. Two or three dams needing put in too. There's also a whole bunch of growth going on in the Safford area - more cotton fields falling to the stucco and styrofoam crowd there, so jobs are pretty plentiful.

hey D10 thanks. i will check into it. like i said i proably will stay where i am at. never hurts too look.:yup :yup i know what you mean about cotton fields to stucco. thanks again
