Whoops

Looks like a genset he was loading on the barge. it seemed to go pear-shaped in a hurry although to be fair there is no film of the lead-up to the crane going over. https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-l...00-gallons-of-fuel-sinks-in-galapagos-islands

    Operator sure got $hitwhipped!

Where's our man crane operator when we need him? That's right his big crane is down for repairs!

Man oh man, did you get that right…You could see his legs sticking out of the door as the crane was going over..... i'm going to go out on a limb and say someone did not get the weight correct on the generator or was just picking it up with too light of a crane…that was definitely an "Oh ****" moment. The guy that was next to the crane was cool as can be though, he stayed very calm.

That's probably the biggest crane on the island, so its going to take a little while to get that all fished out. Its a unesco heritage site, so I'd hate to see the environmental lawsuits, but considering its economical situation, there's probably no one to slap with a 300 million dollar fine, because no one has twenty dollars. Thanks for reminding me. You know just how to brighten a guy's life and fill him with christmas cheer don't you? Don't bother setting out milk and cookies, because Santa's got nothing but a big lump of coal for you this year. Kicking a guy when he's down, puts you on the naughty list for sure. But I got a feeling of what's under the tree for me- Santa's bringing me a diesel burning, black smoke belching, precisely engineered swiss clock of a engine, delivered by a bunch of teutonic knights to sweep me from my despair! So take that- Santa's got my back! Twin turbo's for me! Merry Christmas kshansen!

That type of lift is one of the most dangerous lifts a crane operator can do. If the exact weight of the load is not known it's best to determine the max load radius you're going to have to work in and make a test lift within that load radius over flat terra firma with the load close to the ground. That way if it tips the crane you don't **** can the whole ball of wax.

Sorry about that! My bad! Any chance Santa could exchange that coal for a small pile of dry oak? I don't have the conversion kit for the wood stove to burn coal!

Nope- no making lemonade from your lemons! Only a lump of dirty black coal. Your only hope is that coal turns to diamond under high pressure. Retired guys need projects.

Well I do have a 20 ton Harbor Freight press wonder if that is enough pressure and how long it will take?

Us fellas with the coal can just get all together and use them for a BBQ or something.... Merry Xmas everybody!

We unloaded a 1.5 K Cat generator set on a project a number of years ago. It weighted 8,400 lbs. more the weight sticker on it from the factory. No enclosure either, just the bare generator package. The truck driver was pi**ed. They had loaded a smaller genset on also and he was over weight by 7,000 lbs. Lucky for him the scales were closed. Moral of the story is to never believe the weight sticker.

Bad thing about working from barge to barge is that either barge can shift a bit, a wave can roll by changing the pitch of the barge and the boom, lots of things to help things go south in a hurry.
