WIF voltage high code in CAT 305 CR excavator

slmobile · 2025-06-22 23:19

Our 2023 305cr mini excavator has active code 6078-3 which translates to "Fuel/Water Level Sensor Voltage High". We are 2nd owners, original owner never figured out the cause. The machine runs fine, just the warning comes up every time we start it. The CAT ET says it's active code, cannot be cleared. The voltage on the WIF sensor wire is 11.88V. I tracked down and confirmed this voltage is directly from the ECU . Before I go ahead and spend ~$170 on a new WIF sensor which may not resolve it, can anyone confirm if the voltage (11.80V) on the WIF sensor wire is correct? Also what should the resistance be across the WIF sensor terminals? We live off-grid, nearest CAT dealer is 1.5hrs away. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Typically “voltage high” codes mean a open circuit. This could be from a faulty sensor, bad earth or damaged loom.

Post a machine Serial Number please. A troubleshooting procedure probably exists and that information would help to track it down.

90% of the time it’s the sensor or the pigtail (female connector spread open). Is that the 3 style connector or 2? Usually I put a jumper wire from signal to ground and see if the see if the code changes to “voltage low” confirming that the circuit is good. Post the serial number and someone will post the electrical diagram for you.

It was the sensor's fault. Issue resolved - thanks everyone for your suggestions!

So much for "the original owner never figured out the cause"........
