So ive been a member for quite a while and had a thread several years ago titled “new guy work pics”.. figured id start a new thread with some more pics of some jobs i have been on. We are a small outfit and do pretty much everything except utilities as of right now. We also branched out into grain farming slow but sure 7 years ago with a 120 acres of farm ground, and now we are around 800 of corn and soybeans.. my father in law is the owner and ive been with him for 11 years now, and things are progressing nicely. We have one other kid that is full time and is great help for a 21 year old. Here is some digging we did for a new 53’x120’ post frame building that was being built on a concrete foundation, i think they were 4’ walls. We dug for the footings, backfilled and compacted with lime screenings once the walls ready, and rough graded it out for the concrete guys. We dont own a roller so we rented one from Cat rental, it was brand new and a nice roller. We used our 50G and hoe pack to compact close to the walls in several lifts where it was the deepest. This job was right down the road from our shop so i grabbed the 544j and decided to use it to help blow some dirt around while the inside was being rolled in.. the back portion of the building was to be partitioned off and framed in with living quarters so thats the section that we hadn't quite got to yet on the backfill. This was gonna be quite a shop/party barn seemed like to me! These chickens drove us crazy the whole job, always in the way! I used the 50 to grade out the last few inches with the light on the blade frame. Worked pretty slick, this was a test pass lol
Sweet sunset!
farm waterway drainage that had filled in over the years that i cleaned out and re shaped with our 700j..dozer work is probably my favorite
Stopped to grab a matched set that was laying along a field edge
Nice work! Just curious why you didn't strip the grass and topsoil before digging the footings in the first pic?
CM, the concrete contractor had us keep the sod on until he had the majority of it formed up. After he had it ready to pour we peeled it all off with the hoe and threw it out. We also then dug the little access area out on our way out and he poured it. Kind of a pain, but he didnt want to have it get rained on a bunch before he got there and have a muddy mess..one of them deals, i just went with it, hes been good for us.
heres a waterway rebuild i started saturday morning. The water is running way off to the side of where the waterway originally was due to it being silted in over the years. Its made a real deep cut into the field up by the road and is just a zig zagging mess..i got a decent shape roughed in on a full day, lots of dirt to push out. Having to take it a long ways out to get good grade falling back in as the field is fairly flat. I should have it done tomorrow and ready to be seeded. Il post some finish pics when i get it done, its amazing dirt, fun to grade
I finished the waterway a few days ago, glad to be done with that one. Lots of pushing out and backing up. These generally are 30’ or 40’ wide, depending on how much water they are draining. I normally run a blade width flat for the water to run down and spread out, then a blade width on each side tapered up to the field. They will then seed that down and let it be grass, and farm alongside it. Looks really simple, but they can be tricky to shape up and make drain when they get to be half a mile long or more especially in the flatter fields Here you can kind of see the dished out shape
Quick pic of our truck i took while it was clean for 5 min
You waterway blade work is spot on! Nice work. Good looking dump truck but glad it's yours. . I prefer to hire out all trucking.
Good looking work and sharp truck! Looks like you're about 2hrs SW of me.
Took a cool pic at sunset planting corn the other night. Conditions have been amazing this spring
Hows the soil moisture down there? We still have plenty of moisture right now, but the ground is really drying up a lot, especially in the last 2 weeks with the minimal amount of rain we've received this spring.
