So I have a yanmar 1988 B50 excavator. Out of the blue the starter decided not to engage. It spins but doesn't engage. At first I would have to try it a few times before if connected, then it slowly got worse until it wouldn't engage at all. I assumed it was the starter so I replaced it but the new one has the same result. Starter spins but engine doesn't turn over. I'm not a mechanic but I'm not an idiot either, somewhere in between I guess unless you ask me wife.
