Working on a d5 with a crank no start condition. Plugged my cat et computer in and the only active code is a 248-2 for cat data link. When you look at it to try and look at engine parameters it doesn't show anything, the only 2 available ecms are for the transmission/steering, and the main dozer ecm for the gauges. Should I be seeing 3 available ecms on this tractor? It runs on ether, as is constantly clicking the air intake heater solenoid.
Yes you should. The Datalink Code will be for the Engine ECM which is failing to communicate with the rest of the machine.
Any insight on where to go from here? Engine ecm should be active since it will fire the huie injectors to run off ether. Start probing ecm plug pins for continuity?
Serial Number would be a good start. Then I could probably find a troubleshoting procedure for the 248-2 pertinent to that machine. An engine ECM can be fully Active but still failing to communicate over the Datalink with the other ECMs on the machine. To clarify - the injectors are not "firing off" when you spray ether down the intake. The ether is taking the place of fuel that the injectors are NOT injecting because they are NOT firing off........
Seeing that you think you can find troubleshooting info, do you think cat sis is worth spending the $$ on? Will get serial when I get back to the machine. Appreciate it.
Dunno. It depends on how many machines you are working on.
You will also need to confirm the MID for your 248-2. There are a few options, but the most likely one is MID030. See attached.
My ability to access SIS if free. I have had it for some time and don’t remember exactly when it was set up but i believe my dealer did it through my account. If you have ET I thought SIS it came with it automatically?
