My dad and uncles owned a 1970 Ford 9000 Louisville at one time.Power was a 318 Detroit and it had a sixteen speed Spicer transmission. The gear shift had the regular H pattern 1,2,3,4 and a hole for reverse. On the side of the shift lever was a selector button that had four positions being 1,2,3,4 plus a neutral .The driver would start off say in 1st gear and then shift the selector button up accordingly to the fourth positon, then drop the shift lever to second and bring the selector button back to either first or second position and start up again.Being a kid at the time and riding in it was way cool.Did anyone use these transmissions?Would like to find out the model number of it.I remember being in it with the float on and the driver moving the 82-40 Terex dozer. That 318 would just snarl through the dual stacks.Manual steering,12K front axle,38K rears with 34K suspension plus it was geared for the moon. Spicer made 6 different 16 speed trans. model # 7016,7216,8016,8216,8516,8716. they were good transmissions for the repair shops. Fuller won out , much better setup. most big trucks used the 8516 or 8716 spicer 16 spd.
Never used are 16 speed spicer but have used a 20 speed spicer you got be good at skip shifting to get the best out of them
