That's pretty close - normally just cover the chain at the bottom of the sprocket.(on level ground) Use engine oil or recycle the old hyd oil when you do a service.

The chain boxes call for 6 quarts. We always put in 7 just for a little added depth. With the machine on level ground with 6 quarts in the box the oil will be about 3/4 of and inch deep, just enough for the chain to dip into.

Does anyone have the correct procedure to tightening the chains on the 1845c? Specifically the chains that come off of the drive motors (2). I already did the ones that go to each wheel (4). Also, do you think more than 6 quarts will hurt anything? The level on mine has always been just under halfway up the big sprockets. That has to be more than 6 quarts. Also, my chain boxes look to share oil from front to rear wheel positions. In other words, I only have a total of 2 chain boxes. A left and a right.

If I remember correctly about 1/2" to 1" deflection. There should be 4 bolts holding the motor, loosen then slightly then use the adjuster bolt to move the motor back (tighten) the chain. No need for the oil to be that high in the cases. We put 2 jugs of oil in each side, only because they are 3.78 litre jugs. No sense trying to put just 6 quarts/litres in. The little extra is not hurting anything.

The oil in the chain cases is 10w30 motor oil and is 11/16 of a inch deep.

Chain Oil Does it matter what brand 10w30 oil you use in the chain boxes?? Could I just go to wal-mart and get their brand of, or would that be a bad idea?

    I use autozone 10w30 purchase from autozone the cheapest $10.99 for 5 liter ( 1.32 gal) http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ca...Oil,+Fluid+and+Lubrication&_requestid=1141460
