I recently purchased a neighboring property that has a 1958 Caterpillar D4 Dozer on it. I know it ran 16 years ago, but it has been parked in one place ever since. Would this thing have an value to anyone? Should I try to sell it? Where? Scrap it? There is some rust on it, but the tracts are in good shape.
post it on craigslist with some pics, not knowing the condition its hard to say the value. could be scrap could be a good parts machine and be worth a little more. Pics here are good too. Steve
Machines of that vintage are very rugged and simple. (mechanically simple, not simple to operate, lol) No electronics and wiring harnesses to get corroded. Rust doesn't mean that much on a dozer, it's not going to rust through like a car.
Here are a couple of pics
Go to www.ACMOC.org and put it up for sale.
What is a good ball park price to ask?
Someone took the time to cover the exhaust stacks, it's probably not seized.
It could be worth anywhere from scrap price less hauling, to a few thousand dollars. If it starts and runs that's a good start. Are the steering clutches and brakes working and not rusted solid? Tracks have to be measured to accurately tell if they are good or not. There are ACMOC members in your part of the world. As mentioned throw a post on the site there and ask if someone is in your area to help you put a fair price on it. Make sure to include a serial number. It will be on the left side toward the back of the engine block and also on the rear transmission case on the left side. If the rear tag is gone the serial number will still be stamped into the case under where you see the rivet holes from the tag. Or PM me with the serial number and I can better help you out.
Around here it would bring $ 1500.00 - $ 2500.00 if the engine isn't seized and it would roll. Otherwise about half of current scrap price. just from the pics the grousers look barely worn , a good undercarraige has some value, Always depends on the local market . Steve
