Have a 1984 jd410b first thing is bought the tractor with all hydraulics down . Went to work on it and found the destroke solenoid wires were cut . So i replaced that with the plug from jd . Then found the destroke adjustment was screwed all the way in . adjusted that back out then got some action but very little . Took the destroke assembly apart to find the spring on left side was bent and pin was missing . Went back to jd to get those items installed them now have pressure on system . pressure was to mucvalveh that it stalled engine unless you keep a loader valve open soon as you let go engine loads up and stalls . So i adjusted the adjustment on the side of the priority valve and now the tractor doesnt stall . Also changed filter and checked screens . So now here is what my problems are steering issue when you turn wheel left it steers right when you turn wheel right it turns left . Stabilizers and front bucket will lift tractor way off the ground with no problem but front bucket lifts fine but will not curl up if you lay it on ground and help it it will curl up soon as you lift up bucket curls back down also the down force of the bucket woks just not up . Now to the backhoe right swing dipper and bucket curl doesnt work boom lift works fine up and down will lift tractor off ground left swing woks great . Also those function on the backhoe that dont work if help them out the retun force of them is very strong . Sorry for the long post but i was just wanting to give a good explanation of what im experiencing so maybe on of you guys out there may be ables to help me with these problems . I have a manual on the 710b but not the 410b . Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks jeff,
Welcome to HEF jeff77. :drinkup Let me see if I've got this right. You purchased a 410B with no hyd functions working at all. You found the manual destroke was screwed all the way in (which puts the pump into destroke, no output). Turned the destroke back out and gained minimal functions. You took the destroke valve apart, found some messed up items, went to Deere to get the parts, then returned to install them and sort out the destroke valve. Upon re-start after repairs, the pump put out so much pressure that it stalled engine unless you do something like operate loader control valve. If you returned loader control valve back to N while engine was running it would stall engine from excessive pump pressure. Is that pretty much right?
Yes that is correct
Ok, first things first, the quirks you have with various functions are irrelevant at this point because you have pump issues, you're going to have to start there and then get everything else proper. If it's a 410B, it should have the common Deere rotary piston pump. On those units, when engine is started and pump starts rotating, the charge pump begins feeding oil to the main pump piston chambers. The hydraulic system is a closed center system. With that said, when no functions are being used, all things in neutral, pressure begins to build at outlet port of main pump. Once a certain pressure is reached at outlet port of pump (standby pressure), the pump destrokes and holds that pressure. I do not recall what actual PSI the standby pressure is, but it's low enough to not stall engine. That's your problem, the standby pressure is so high right now that it stalls engine. Or, there is no "standby pressure", instead, the destroke isn't working at all and the pump is cranking out oil full tilt, thereby stalling engine. The way that pump works, if destroke is working proper and standby pressure is set proper, you should be able to remove the outlet hose from the pump, install a cap on the outlet fitting of pump, and still be able to start/run engine. You're going to have to get that pump sorted out first before you address any of the other issues.
Ok thanks i will check that out first and get back with ya . Can the standby pressure be adjusted if so where on the destroke do you do that i have a pressure guage
First of all, let me add that I'm not a 410B expert, I just know a little about these things and it's literally been years since I've messed with one. And yes, the standby pressure is adjustable, it's on opposite side of pump from manual destroke. That is if the destroke valve is in fact in proper order. Tell ya what, I do have a PDF about the 410B hydraulics. It doesn't give any service information, but it's some good stuff on how the system works. Send me your email address via Private Message and I'll forward this PDF to you.
email sent jeff77, let me know if it didn't come through.
I recieved it thanks alor
Jeff, I understood this to mean that the tractor will idle and not stall (without holding the levers). Is this correct or do you have to keep using the hydraulics to keep the engine from stalling? Also, I'm dying to find out what kind of gremlins you found in the screen and filter, or were they brand new?
Yes now that i adjusted the nut on side of valve back out it will run now without holding a control . Nothing major was found in filter or screens .
I really want to think that the guy that i purchased it from put a wrench on every single nut bolt line etc that he could find
I'd pull the pressure control valve and see if there's any thing messed up in there. If you get a gauge on the pump, you could set the pressure correctly and see if it's coming back to the same pressure after each function, then you might leave the pump/pressure control valve alone. What's the story on this machine? Does it look like somebody took everything apart recently? or messed with the steering hoses and the pressure reliefs on the loader/backhoe controls? I'm assuming it couldn't have been used in this condition, and I can't think of anything that would cause these issues, short of somebody messing it up, or a major contamination.
Ok i screwed that adjustment back down on the pressure control valve and set the standby pressure to 2000 psi . Now the tractor doesnt stall out also i gained the curl function of the backhoe by doing this but i still have no right swing the dipper moves now but slow on the way out and still no curl up on the front bucket but it curls down fine with the valve just not up .
Delmer, checked the pressure control valve it looked to be fine to me . Steering issue was fixed today also looked like he changed lines around for some reason so i switched them around and that works fine now . Yes the guy did tamper with alot on the tractor some of the pressure reliefs look like they have been out also .
jeff77, I do declare it seems you have taken possession of the most *** up machine on the planet earth! :dizzy I take it by your posts that you were able to get the pump working the way it's supposed to. If so, that's good. :drinkup
I also took the filter canister back off today and found what looked to be half of an o ring and half a piece of the white shim that goes with the o ring . Looks like it may have came from one of the pressure reliefs or its about that size .found it in the filter canister
You know willie59 thats the story of my life . I tell everyone if i ever get the kinks worked out im gonna sell this piece a h@$l !! But hey i really appreciate that pdf you sent me ... Good info for me there !
I'm glad it helped. And I hope you get all the issues sorted out. The old Deere loader/hoe machines were a solid machine. My first choice in a loader/hoe is a Case, but pushing a real close second is a Deere.
