As the title says im looking at a 97 super L extend a hoe 2 stick control 4wd has 9147hours. Just curious what kinda life guys have got out of these units before all the major components start to fail? Machine is a one owner and always serviced and maintained. Its been driven around town and rural area all its life. Im not 100% sure as to whats been repaired. Machine is showing rust on the doors and hood. However everything works and functions as i watched the guy install a septic field and tank with it. Im suppose to test it saturday. The guy is fairly firm on 20g Canadian. Im wondering what a machine like this is actually worth now adays.... Any input would be greatly appreciated Thanks
I sold my super E at 9000 hrs and she was tired .Motor was weak and the guy I sold it to had to rebuild the shuttle shortly after . I had repaired the cab from rust and painted the whole machine to the point it looked new .I was lucky to get 12 grand .In my opinion spend the money and look for something around 3000 hrs , though you should not trust the hr meter .
Thanks for the reply. Up here in Canada these 580s are holding a stupid high value. Ive looked at a 92 K with 10045 hrs guy wanted 17g. Looked at a rotted out 93 k dealer was asking 20 with 13000 hrs Looked at a 95 super L with 9060hrs guy wants 28g however it has a new tranny at 8000hrs but according to the service records its have periodic shifting issues. Seems like there gold out here at the moment and the unfortunate part parts are not cheap. We have a 76 580C with 25000hrs and its been good did the tranny once and rings on the motor thatz it. If u maintain them i think the motor shouldnt be my biggest worry. My biggest worry is the transmission. So im stuck between a rock and a hard place..... Not sure what to do
I also check the marketbook every other day and the prices on there are crazy. Ritchie bros auctions prices are basically the same.
Its no so much the hours as it is the operators running it and maintenance history. I've seen some really good shape higher hours backhoes come through the shop that ran great and didn't need anything major. We just had a 590SL in that had over 9500 hours and we rebuilt the transmission, other than that the owner said it's been trouble free and a work horse. Machine was in great shape and well taken care of. We currently have a Super E with 7600 hours that needs some work on the shuttle shift, but other than that it's had no issues. On the other hand, we've had N's come in with 3000+ hours already that have been beat to hell and back that are having more issues than these older machines with higher hours that are in better shape. Case engines are good if you keep up on the services.
Thats just it. If a guy maintains his equipment it will last..
Just don't get in hurry Ranger900. Eventually you will find a decent one. Don't settle for one you don't feel good about buying.
Thanks for the input tinkerer. The one thing i like about this 97 i found is that its a 1 owner owner operator 5 minutes from my place and like i mentioned seen it workin. Its the guys spare machine now but never the less it still works good. It will need a new paint job which ill do if i buy it. Ive looked at machines from the east cost up my home town in Manitoba during my road trip and there sure is alot of rusted out high hr junk out there and guys are still looking at 20g plus. Found a couple 02 580s with blown motors guys still want 18g with 6500hrs.. Maybe i should buy a different brand but ive grown up on case and its hard to change
Tested the machine out today. Everything works good it seems. Pushes dirt like nothing tranny moves nicely with no slippage. It does need a wheel seal on the front left wheel. Controls are backwards from what im use too on a excavator im wondering how difficult it is to swap lines around so that the controls are the same because i do not want to be confused every other day
Do not change hoses to change functions, every circuit has its own secondary relief valves to protect the circuits from overload. It is easier and better to just make linkage rods to change the lever action, I have done several and it works fine.
Thanks for the info if i buy the machine ill have to try figure out how to make the linkages and make them work
I ran a 590 super le for several years and it was the best machine ive ever ran.really regretted selling it. Nick...
Tell him you'll take it "if" he has the swap done.
If its a wobble stick and you're trying to get boom control over to the right stick, I think that's going to take some seriously customized linkage rods to do that.
This may or may not be what you need to make the change. -----> http://partstore.casece.com/us/parts-search.html#epc::mr57336ar1147101bi3904894
Awesome thanks for that info. Im going to call my local case dealer in Winnipeg to see if they can get those items
Nice find!
