1998 John Deere 892 ELC Hydralics PLEASE HELP!!

Hey fellas, Just bought a 892 ELC. Hauled it home from Barrie Ont and put it to work in the bush today. After digging out about 5 small trees (yes 10 mins of work) It started chattering, I opened the door where the pumps are and the pressure line from the rear (left hand pump) was chattering furiously. It chatters even more furiously when ever I try to make a function. Swing and track drive will not work at all, very minimal movement. Lots of power still in boom down or stick in. Chatter in these and all other functions. Does this sound like a blown pump to you or perhaps a valve issue!?!? Please advise, my wrench hand is itchy!! Also from the pump drive area there is a clunk sound whenever the engine is shut off, no cavatation sounds.

892 Hi, More than likely you've got pump problems.Had and 892D that started to behave the same way. Dominion:canada

Either pump problems, or maybe a blocked vent valve in the hydraulic tank.

The clunking sound reminds me of the drive coupler between the engine and the pump. The functions that chatter and don't work sounds like a bad pump. Another idea to check is the suction strainer in the hydraulic tank. It could be plugged with junk that someone dumped into the tank or internally generated garbage from the system. Also pull the hydraulic filter and look it over good before you start jerking pumps of the machine and tearing them down. Good Luck!

If you have noise in the pump area when not operating a function, then the problem would most likely be a piston that picked up or broke. Don't operate it any more and have the pump looked at. It sure doesn't sound like the normal problem of the port plate lifting off. Which is common for this style of pump. Check you filters for metal coming from the pump. Run a magnet in the filter housing. The clunk sound can come from your coupler between the transmission and the flywheel also not uncommon on that machine.
