Homeowners buying old giant excavators? Wonder what the world will be like when everyone is a construction equipment operator, HVAC repairman, computer repairman, hardwood floor installer, brain surgeon, dentist, landscaper, politician-oops forgot everyone already is that, chef, well driller, college professor, lawyer, pilot... so, your pretty much saying it's not worth it.

If you had another identical machine, this could be a decent deal as a spare parts machine. Especially, in the $5k range. But, going into this blind, could turn into a basket case nightmare. It might even be a grey-market machine, creating an even larger nightmare. Then, it will be parked in your backyard instead of this beautiful horse pasture.

Without being able to run it how do you know if the hydraulic system works...electrical works...final drives work...etc. I have only been around excavators about 2 years but there is LOT that can be wrong or go wrong. You could easily be buying a lot of trouble, like Coaldust says.

It looks like it would be worth looking into. Questions need to be asked. Did it throw a rod through the block running wide open or did it seize up while idling or something in between?? There could be alot wrong with it as previously mentioned or it might not. If you have the $$ and the time and abitlity to do the repairs and like to gamble a little go for it.

    Where is the machine located?

I was wondering if one was to procure that, exactly how would one drag it onto the trailer and also, if necessary, make sure the boom was folded properly to assure compliance with height highway requirements....then remove it from trailer to the location (shop?) for the engine repair task..... then I was musing if the engine was not operating, wonder how did it get to where it is/was and how the boom became in that position....what were the odds the engine died and it was right there, just like that.....hmmm. This lead to thinking, just maybe, there could be more chapters to the story.
