Gravy job... rich German farmer from my area.... just likes to put on the big show... dunno why he didn't just use his farm scraper.... i don't ask question thow... just send him the bill haha.
just a few more.... nice sunset. beautiful sept evening.
Red sky at night... skinners delight!
Catskinner, can I ask what it is that you call a discer ridge? I am assuming (one never should assume) by the look of the pics it is a ridge of soil that has formed up over time by plowing one way with a disc plow. It is nice rich looking soil but it is the amount of soil that you are shifting that has me a bit puzzled, if it is just a plow ridge. Nice pics though. Rn'R.
you are right, it is from working one way with a disc plow. it is very rich soil. But it was still very hard, made it alot easier to rip it up alittle bit. we had a pretty wet fall here so far and the big farm equipment they use nowadays really compacts the soil when its wet. for the first 3/4's of the 1900's thats all the guys around here used to work the land was disc plows, plows, or seed discers. and over time the fields all became dished out, everyone having farmed 1/4 sections broke down into 40 acre fields... makes for alot of ridges in areas. i have pushed quite a few of them i love the work just gravy from start to finish. when a guy calls and says he has some ridges to level out, it brings a smile to my face haha.
oh yea and one more thing i wanted to point out to you guys.... the old girl with the canopy is actually a D8K, some people think its an H because i straight piped it with a H exhaust elbow. Love how the old girl barks, makes an H sound like a Briggs and Straton. I am operating it in those pics, as you can see, ear muffs are a must.
Catskinner77V. I sure wish you had a soundtrack of that 8K working. Those buggers sure do sound good. Makes me jealous. Thanks for the Pics.. :notworthy
looks good, you guys will be the talk at the cafe Table of Truth, LOL thansk KoO Published Author
Nice pics CS, and glad to see you. Its been awhile. I'm sure you have been over to Redpower often but I don't venture there as I usually end up here and then the wife is yelling at me, lol. Trbo
Trbo, That's why a wise man (actually my former father in law) once told me every boy should own a bulldozer - cause you get to pull on earmuffs for 10 hours a day.
haha yea, we actually picked up a bunch more work having those cats out working.... action is the best advertisement money can buy
I'm ignorant on farming and most all dozer work, so I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but what are you doing in those fields with the dozers? For the life of me, I can't figure it out. Thank you, Eddie
plows and disks, two forms of tillage equipment, always throw the soil one way...basically like a one way snow plow...if you don't plow or disc a field properly then over the years..many years...you will basically move all the soil across the field and it will pile along one edge...this creates problems with drainage, planting, etc... the larger the fields the more extreme this can get...to solve the problem you should work a field in smaller sections rather then the whole thing at once
what they are doing is making the field flat so the water drains better. that black soil it known for being sticky and holding water. the farmers shape the land so they can get out working it sooner. (disclaimer here, i live in the bush and the nearest farm is 1200 kms to the south. so i hope i have it close, LOL) thansk KoO Published Author
you fellas pretty much answered the question for me haha
ok, we answered the questions, how about more pictures EH?????? thansk KoO Published Author
I havn't been much of a camera addict lately.... but heres a few more pics king.... my first cat i ever bought.... had if for atleast 15 years now on the lowbed.... illegal of course lol lol lol. but if guys like me didn't pound the highways out, we wouldnt have a reason to hire guys to fix them right?!?!? and the same cat just blowing smoke... she needs a motor job badly, burns a 20 liter pail of oil in a good 10 hour day. and i have the ratio control setting cranked right up to put on the smoke shows and pick up rpms quicker because its so worn out.
it won't let me upload the lowbed pic... but that other pic is taking the cat apart this spring when a final piled up bad on me... so much for that motor job for another year haha
excellent shop you have, i have the same shop. today i was sweating as i did steering clutches then the rains came. i cooled down as i tried to get the last clutch drum in the td-18 so i could shove him back in my little shop. i got all the tools put away and the shop closed up and went in the shop soaked and xena asked if it was raining outside. when you are only 10 years old that is a questiuon that gets a reply "no" it is not raining outside, LOL looks good and more pictures please. thansk KoO Published Author
lol
ok the posting has gotten out of order. owning and cat or a semi is like an ex-wife, it cost you per day even if the equipment is work. better yet buy an airplane to make a million dollars but you have to have 2 million in the bank and "know" when to quit,LOL. thansk KoO Published Author
sorry i screwed this whole tread up, drank a 12 of OV tonite that could be why lol. i don't usually put the cats in the shop for doin final drive work and what not... nice to do it outside where u can get at it with the zoom boom.
Thank you for the replies. It makes sense to me now. Just one of many things that I never thought of or even considered. Eddie
Great pics good ole D8K's , I miss the days I ran one everyday I agree on an 8K soundtrack really miss the way they sound
AH, the photo of you having the track frames out bring back alot of memories when I was younger of changing under carriage on the 15's, and sliding the track frames out to work on the dead axles and all the good wear parts that go with running a bulldozer. Trbo
Thank God for imigration
why did you single out your rippers? Is that soil really that tough?
no it was like ripping butter........ i leave only one on that cat because it usually has a root rake mounted on the front, and the ripper is handy for those tough to remove stumps that the first cat misses..... That and some guys want to rip as deep as possible to cut as many roots as possible...... that and when your working for farmers by the hour no sense in getting too much done all at once!!! lol
