Hi all, Thankyou kindly for allowing me access to post here, im sure if there are answers for our situation i will find them here. The situation- I work on electronics as a side business mostly repairing guitar amps and laptops. I got a call from a bloke to see if i could come have a look at an issue he is having with his cat grader- the right hand joystick intermittently faults causing the blade to stop dead usually while raising. We are getting error code 2151-3 that indicates high voltage. I assume thats high across the hall effect sensor. Having never worked on CAT equipment i assumed we could order a new H/A effect array as a sub module (see photos) and hot swap it out, or at worst find some generic hall effect sensor ic’s and re float the pcb. I was obviously wrong! CAT lock us out of repairing with firmware. So for what is probably a two dollar faulty part, we are looking at a whole joystick Replacement costing around $6000 AUD. All this is assuming i am correct in my assumptions! And please forgive my naivety i have never dealt with CAT equipment before. My questions are 1/ how often do these sensors **** themselves? 2/ could it be the ring magnet that drives the H/E sensors? 3/is there any workaround that is cheaper than a whole new joystick module? Thanks for any help/insight Into this guys!
Before condemning the joystick itself there is a troubleshooting procedure to go through to ensure that there is no wiring fault, etc. See the attached. You are welcome to a complete electrical schematic for the machine but that will require a machine Serial Number (last 8 characters of the 17-character PIN) to identify the correct one. There are 15 different models of 120M so it's important to get the correct info. How many total hours on the machine.? The mechanical parts of the sensor assembly may be getting worn by this point.
