Hello I own a 1972 jd310 backhoe loader. This unit has a great working 2.7l 3cyl diesel engine. The whole machine has a few different issues. I have found a 1979 john deere 510 (4270DR-02) with a blown 4.4l 4 cylinder diesel engine that I can get fairly cheap. My question is, will the 2.7l bolt up in place of the 4.4l engine? Yes I know it's a down grade in power but I'm trying to have a working backhoe I can use around my property without spending a ton of money.
No the blocks are totally different the engines are of different series. You'd have to make quite the adaptor kit.
