we have a 420E with no brake lights checked all the routine stuff bulbs/fuses/relays fuse directory does not indicate witch fuse for brake lights but all are good checked switches on pedals both are moving but did not remove and test (looks like you have to remove entire dash) any one have any ideas we also have two 420Ds that have no brake lights thats the next project thanks for the help BB
Just checking, but the bulbs for the brake light have 2 filaments. tail and brake in the same bulb. Make sure they are both good. The C and D models had problems with moisture getting inside the lights. Clean the contacts on the bulb and light and bend the contact so it pushes against the bulb harder. Does the horn work? The brake lights share the same fuse and it is always powered, even without the key off. Now the horn may not work but you still could have power because the horn uses a relay. Does the four wheel braking work? The switch on the left dash, has 4x4, off and 4 wheel braking. Try it in 4 braking by lifting the wheels off the ground, drive and them tap the brakes. the front wheels should momentarily kick in. you can see and hear it. This function uses the same brake switches and power as the the brake lights. There are 2 switches, one on each pedal and its is unlikely that both went bad.
thanks turns out that both switches have failed thanks for all your help lee
