450G Dozer won’t move.

jezellow · 2023-08-26 18:57

Problem started out as while moving forward dozer would stop and then go into reverse by itself. Last time she did it she never slowed jumped from forward to reverse and that's all she wrote. Have it up on blocks and tracks do move. 1&2 forward, but when I shift into 3&4 they go into reverse. 1-4 reverse operate correctly. Does not move with ground pressure. First question is where do I connect gauge to check pressure? Direct drive machine approx. 1994. Thanks in advance. Jaime

Welcome to HEF jezellow ! Your issue is in the shift linkage, not the transmission. Check for worn bellcranks, balljoints and such. Also, the directional spool may be misadjusted as well. Should have opened this thread in the dozer section. Hopefully, a MOD will move it.

You will find the transmission linkage adjustment procedure in the thread below. JD 550 G JD 550 G shifting from forward to reverse with out shifter moving? Anyone else have this problem? HeavyEquipmentForums

Easy to get a thread moved. Click the “report” button and ask.

Thanks for the info back, I was working on linkage when I adjusted it apparently wrong. As I was testing it the machine jumped from going forward to reversing without deaccelerating or pausing between forward and reverse. That's where she quite moving altogether. I had read a couple of years ago to never do this as it could cause a failure, unable to locate that post to see what it may have damaged. Also did ask to have post moved to dozer page. Thanks again for the input.

As stated in other posts here the linkage is the number one culprit in this case. Also make sure all shift linkage and shift valve area is free of debris dirt twigs and small limbs etc.Check the bell cranks closely they have small roller bearings that wear out causing excessive play. On early SR# Deere provided an update kit it was added to production in later SR#. If you need help with part numbers I will need last six digits of machine SR#.

Thanks for the input, found someone had already worked on linkage and screwed up the left hand threaded link. Had rethreaded rod and ordered new links for both ends. Parts to be in Thursday, on hold till then.

Thanks to mg2361, Diesel Dave, Steve Austin and Nige for your help. Replace several rod ends, and welded worn shift rod and plate then machine back down to tight fit. With all that said she operating as it should. THANKS for the input! Jaime
