Hi guys...got a 48a2199 160 low horsepower....started a weird exhaust popping...almost like a back fire at low idle....when u idle up....it goes away....the pop creates a puff of white smoke when it pops.....what is this guys?? Is it a stuck valve.....injector....need valves adjusted or what?? Just started out of the blue.....did i over either on start up??
sounds like an injector
Move the suspect injector (capsule) to another cylinder and see if the issue follows.
Follow up guys.....adjusted valves....1 was way out....put in some Injector cleaner.....fired it up....idle 10 minutes......ran easy at 1/3 throttle.....then a pop and it went to blowing black smoke and died?? What happened....wont start now....
Start from scratch... what does it do when you try to start it? IF it died blowing black smoke, there's oil, or fuel at the wrong time. No other possibilities I know of?
Pull the valve cover again.. look for a busted valve, if ok,, might have blown an injector.. yank'um out and get tested.
When i crank her over....it wont start....small puffs of black smoke.....i pulled all 4 injectors....and they look pretty bad...gonna get all new injectors and cups.....i have not given her any ether.....would popping 1 injector cause it to not start and load up fuel heavy....hence the black smoke?? I was afraid i busted a cam gear or sumthen....
Get the injectors tested. Then you'll know if they're bad and which cylinder. Any injection shop or Caterpillar dealer can test them. Maybe send them to the pumpguysc if you can't find a shop locally.
