Needing to replace fan belt on NH 555E backhoe and wondering how big of a job this is. Anyone done this and can help with the procedure? Thanks
Should be pretty straight forward. Loosen pivot and tensioner bolts, feed belt around the fan 1 blade at a time then reverse. You might have to find a gap at the tip of 1 blade and rotate the fan as you feed the belt out and in. Don't over tighten the new belt. Should deflect about 3/4 inch in center with moderate pressure. Recheck tightness after running a few hours.
Ok thanks. It didn't look like there was enough room around the fan shroud to go over it. Was afraid I was going to have to remove the fan & radiator. Thanks for the reply!
You're going to have to remove either the hydraulic pump or it's driveshaft too. That's usually 9/10 of the job.
I did not have to do that on my 575E which should be very similar if not the same.
Wow, I hadn't realized they changed to a rear mounted pump on the E models. That may be the first time ever they changed to something easier to service. On all the 555-555D models, (and ford industrials before 555s) they drove the pump off the front of the crankshaft. That meant you had to remove it to change a belt.
