580 ck loader/backhoe hydraulics jerky help

I have a 1970 580 ck and the hyd for the loader/backhoe work but sometimes it like they start and stop working. when they work they work great lots of power and they will sometimes work for a long time without any problems but its like they just stop on there own or for example while lifting backhoe they will sometimes lift for 4 inches then just stop and if i mess with other hyd valves and go back to lift it will work again sometimes lifting all the way or sometimes only a few inches and stop again. Today i changed the hyd filter and when i removed the canister the filter sets in there was a lot of what looks like air bubbles in the oil almost foamy looking ** it is new oil** when it is pumping it is very strong so im sure the pump is good it is like it is getting air in the system and dont pump any ideas what would make this do that thanks

I would say there's a pretty good chance you have a leak in a suction line, allowing air to enter the system. On my 580C there are large metal lines tieing the two sides of the reservoir together, then the filter, then metal lines and hoses to the inlet side of the pump. Anywhere it can suck air in the suction side, it can pull air easier than oil, and because it's on the suction side, you may not see a large leak. Look it all over and you may find a wet place that will indicate that type of leak. did you use a new gasket on the filter? Are you sure it's seated properly?

I was thinking along that line i am going to check it today for leaks and i did put a new o-ring on when i installed the filter this was doing this before the filter change i will post my findings tonight thanks
