580 SM /580 Super D Hoe Buckets interchanging

Metalman 55 ยท 2013-10-04 19:19

We have a 1985 Case 580 Super D with several hoe buckets & I wanted to ask if anyone knows if the buckets will fit a 2004 Case 580 SM machine that we are thinking of purchasing? Thanks Metalman

The D and M series have the same size pins and should have the same spacing. As long as the D buckets are Case or built to Case specs they will fit the SM coupler on the machine. You will have to have the small pin in the upper hole. If the SM does not have a coupler and only the links like the D series it will hook up fine and you can use either pin locations for the small pin. The only problem with using older buckets on newer machines is the new machines have more power and can destroy the older buckets if abused to much.

Ok thanks for the info........Another question, does anyone know the differences between the 580 Super M & the Super M Series 11, or any others that may be between them?

About the only difference between a SM and a SM-II is the engine and were the hydraulic pump mounts. The SM has a 4B 3.9 cummins and the hydraulic pump drives off of the front of the crank. The SM-II has a 4.5 CASE/Iveco engine and the hydraulic pump is mounted at the rear of the transmission

The 580SM has the increased rotation coupler, most 580D buckets will not fit and the ones that will are not recommended because they just are not strong enough. the buckets part number D137891, D137892, D137893, D138035 and D137750 will fit but not recommended. All other 580D buckets will not fit.
