580 Super L Series 2 boom cylinder value?

rickw · 2022-05-04 06:12

We replaced our boom cylinder several years ago because it cracked at the weld on the end opposite the gland. We had it welded and it has held fine for a couple years, but we went ahead and bought a new cylinder and replaced it. It does not leak. It is just laying in the barn, We hung onto it to be sure the new cylinder worked out. Machine has about 2000 hrs on it. I guess the question is, Does this cylinder have and value to anybody out there?

It won't have much value when it has a failed repair on it. If you have my kind of luck, as soon as your are rid of it, the one on your backhoe will get damaged and need parts.

The only way we have successfully seen these cylinders repaired is to use a lathe and completely remove the existing weld and end cap. We have found that the cap was actually installed with an o ring on it then welded. Once this is done and rewelded it will last.

Thanks for the replies. Kind of what I figured.

For a thumb on something big or who knows what. If it were mine it would stay in the barn until my heirs had to deal with it. Spudmonkey will find a use for it, ship it to him. Joe H
