Pump timing case 580 Hi, i am new to this forum. we have a 1985 mod Case 580 tractor at work, and som genius filled soap in the diesel tank. Well, the pump didnt like it, we got it overhauled now. My question is, is there timing marks at the sprockets in the front to align the pump correctly. i reply to this tread since i am not aloud to start a new tread ..? Thanks Borge
Your backalarm is run off of the FNR switch. When you go into reverse you send power from the FNR switch to the reverse solenoid on the transmission and also to the backalarm. Check for power and ground at the alarm wires with the machine not running but the key in the run position and the FNR in reverse. The alrms are the most common problem other than some unhooking the alarm.
Welcome to the forum Borge:drinkup. The guys will need to know what engine you have, do you have a D or an E model? The E models here have a Cummins engine, the earlier 580D usually has the Case engine. Goose, Alrman, or gggraham our Case experts will answer your question. Phil
Sorry guys been a little busy over the last couple of days. You should have a 580E if the year is correct. 4-390 engine ( 4 x tappet covers .... yes?) If this is correct, timing marks on the gears are not really required - as long as you have not pulled them out or tried to turn engine with pump out.... When you refit pump, align the woodruff key & gear , there is usually a line on the flange of the pump & a line on the timing cover, align these marks & engine will run OK. If you want to be a little more precise, with the pump fitted , rotate the engine by hand & engage the timing pointer (pin below injector pump) this is TDC. (if you have not already done so) Remove the window on the side of the injector pump & then align the closest letter & line with the edge of the circlip - usually 'A' from memory. ** BEFORE YOU FIT PUMP MAKE SURE IT IS NOT LOCKED FROM PUMP ROOM !!! **** I hope I've guessed the right engine, or else this info is useless to you.
its a 580-g with cav pump
thanks for the reply goose `i` ll check this, sometimes it works sometimes it don`t
The 580G will have a David brown engine in it I believe. Did they just remove the pump or did they remove the drive gear also. If they just removed the pump it should just need to be reinstalled into the gear with the dowel pin engaged in the gear and the drive hub on the injection pump.
We just removed the pump, so then its plug and play i guess. Thanks a lot for helping Borge
