We had oil leaking at the front hubs around the drive shafts on both sides of the U-Joint. Got new bushings & seals, but see how the both shafts are scored near where the seal rides. We priced new shafts & they are expensive.....think we will try it with just new seals & leave the shafts as is, as the shafts are very expensive & take our chances. Can anyone else weigh in on the subject? Metalman
Is the splined/geared portion of that shaft any smaller than the smooth section. So that a speedi sleeve might fit over the splines and onto the smooth part. You'd probably need a lathe to cut it off to leave room for the bearing but it might work. Might be able to score the speedi sleeve so it would peel off of the shaft too.
I believe a speedi would have fit over at both ends, however we have already put it back together. Will likely know tomorrow if it will stay dry or leak.
The speedi sleeve may work for a while, but I doubt it would be very durable. For a guaranteed repair, I have them ceramic sprayed. Takes a little time at the machine shop & isn't very cheap either, but still costs less than new parts - if the downtime is not an issue.
