580B backhoe keeps filling the crankcase with diesel fuel. I forgat to close tank valve again. Is there a quick fix if not what should I do
It's either the injection pump, or the transfer pump if it has one. If it has a transfer pump with a priming lever, loosen the nuts that hold the transfer pump on the engine and pull it loose enough to tell if it leaks diesel while you pump it. Otherwise it's the injection pump. One of the real experts will tell you how involved that is, I don't know.
IF the inj. pump has to come off, you SHOULD TIME IT 1st... SHUT OFF THE FUEL.. There's a small window on the side of the inj. pump w/ 2 flat head screws.. remove it and you'll see a stationary line..after the fuel drains all over your arms, lol.. just rotate the engine over, in the correct direction of rotation, until another line appears.. disconnect your lines and linkage. Line up the 2 lines and pull the pump back.. the drive shaft will stay in the engine.. The hardest part of the ENTIRE process is getting the dam seals back in the "pilot tube" with out rolling them.. we'll cross that bridge when we get there. OR you could do like my last customer did.. and pull the front of the engine apart and press the dr. shaft out of the gear and send it along with the pump..?? email me if you need further help or instructions..
