hi so witch coolent should i use in a 580k i like the red long life but i read some horror story on the web if you use the wrong one thanks bob
Ethylene glycol mixed 50/50 with water, mostly found looking green.
thanks sheepfoot i got 50 50 pre mix ethylene glycol red delo chevron coolent they say for use in cat ec-1 cummins j i case and meny more so i guest its ok to put it in the next coolent flush
Only thing that really matters is you use coolant that has DCA/SCA in it. SCA (supplemental coolant additive) or DCA (diesel coolant additive) is what protects the liners from cavitation that causes pitting and erosion. Also helps keep water pump seals intact, so I have been told. Used to be able to get green coolant with SCA, I don't think Texaco makes it anymore. Your 580 should have a B series Cummins in it, which is a virgin block engine (no sleeves). Doesn't really matter what kind of coolant you use in your engine, unless you believe the additive helps protect the water pump. Fleetguard does offer bottles of DCA/SCA concentrate if the water filter can't maintain proper additive level. BUT, you need to be careful with the concentrate. Too high of DCA/SCA levels can be very problematic to the cooling system.
Cat ec-1 and a red color sound like Extended Life Antifreeze, ELC, which is basically an organic acid additive package, (and may be available in propylene glycol base?). According to Nige, it's an huge improvement over SCA, but you do want to start with a clean system, thoroughly flushed. With a SCA antifreeze, you need to test/maintain the coolant, and it comes in SCA-2 and SCA-4 which use different test strips etc. PEAK FINALCHARGE is a ELC, PEAK FLEETCHARGE is an SCA precharged, which means it's ready to pour in, but you still have to test it the same as any other SCA.
thanks for all the reply yes it has the bt4 cummins in it, i like the red stuff because i never have problem at 9$ canadien per gallon so, with it the green stuff don't do good for me it should be -37 c with a 50/50 mix but it never test near that out of the can and here it can be relly cold here so i don't want to blow a engine just because of frozen coolent
