Hi can you help me , the lever that engages tractor to move forward and reverse after you have selected by gear shift 1 thru 5 speed, has little or no resistance and can fall from forward thru into neutral or reverse when moving which has hairy consequences can anyone help , normally there would be resistance, where ever you put it it stayed but not now any bright ideas
Sorry I'm a little confused - powershift, 1 thru 5 speed ??? we are talking about a 70's vintage 580 aren't we ??
Not a 580CK person myself, but I got locked up on the 5 speed thing as well alrman. Don't even know what to search on that one.
Mine falls all over the place. There is a spring that forces the lever to stay in the position. mine is wore out, and so probably is yours.
Well at first glance I said 5 speed too on my 1968 it does have a 4 speed tranny plus a Start selection marked as a S which can be mistaken as a 5. Mine has a spring that holds the shifter in a notch on the column.
thanks Leon and DBARH that is on the right track , sorry to alrman and Atcoequip for being misleading . what does the spring look like and how it is located as I need to fix this , besides annoying it is down right dangerous
Would you happen to be talking about the fwd/rev control lever on a hydrostat drive machine?
not quite my is a power shuttle model serial 8369981 , whilst it is similar to the above diagram in that it is forward reverse design is different It appears on page 102 of the parts catalogue for pre 8685801 machines . there is a part number A 38296 or number 4 on the diagram could this have given up the ghost? as DBARH as suggested
There is a detent ball & spring (#20,#21) on the first drawing that engages landings machined in the directional spool for reverse-neutral-forward(circled on the second drawing). The detent ball should hold the spool in position. The detent landings on the spool could be severly worn, the ball & spring could be worn, broken etc, or it is possible if someone previously had the valve body removed, they may not have put the detent ball & spring back in. If you disconect the linkage from the spool & try moving it by hand you should feel the detents, If they are in good shape you probably wont be able to move the spool out of position by hand, but if the spool moves freely back & forth then the detent ball & spring are FUBAR or missing.
thankyou TD 5 that makes sense now I will get it apart and see what i find thankyou Chester +
Whats the diff between a 580ck and a 580K?
CK stood for Construction King, K was a series designation of a 580 machine, ie B,C,D,E,& K , All were Construction Kings with a series designation. Here is a link, go to post #8, gggraham explains it better than me
