580ck FUEL GAUGE/SENDING UNIT NOT WORKING

onemank6 ยท 2012-07-03 23:10

When i bought my 580ck someone had removed the fuel gauge and replaced it with a oil pressure gauge.I just bought a used fuel gauge which i believe is good there is one wire coming from the sending unit which i have hooked to the left side of the gauge and a hot to the right side of gauge i also made sure the tank has a seperate ground wire hooked to the tractor this was how i seen it was in a wiring diagrahm so i hooked it up this way.My problem is im not getting any reading and im not sure how to test the gauge or sending unit any ideas thanks

If you earth the wire at the tank, gauge should move up to full. Was the gauge off a Case? The resistance of the sender should match the gauge. Don't ask me how to check how to find if they are compatable

It came from a 580ck like mine but im not sure of the year i think it is what mine would of had.Im not sure what you are saying about eart the wire at the tank unless your saying hook a ground to where the sending unit wire is on the tank please explain and i will try it thanks

Two things alrman is saying, 1) not all fuel gauges/sending units are compatible. But if you got a gauge from another CK, should be compatible. And 2) earth the wire. In electrical terminology, ground and earth are the same, circuit going to ground = circuit going to earth. He's telling you to ground the single wire that connects to sending unit at tank with ignition switch on. If the gauge and circuit is proper, when you ground that wire it will peg the gauge to full. Take the ground away from that wire, gauge will go back to empty. If this happens, sending unit is faulty.

yea i figured he was talking about grounding something just wasnt sure what. But i do now i will try that to make sure gauge is good thanks for the help

I know this an old thread, but if any of you are still on this site I am wondering if the fuel level sending unit on a 580c is easy to remove. There is not a lot of room above the fuel tank. Will the sending unit lift out without having to remove the fuel tank?

outlawspeeder answered this in the other thread, where you asked the same question. HeavyEquipmentForums
