Steering pump on the drive shaft went out so we thougt. It would steer with the wheels off the ground but real hard.We replaced that and a steering cylinder and a hydraulic filter.Still will not steer but all the other hydraulics work fine,Also it does not seem to bleed the air out.We took out 10 gallon of oil and we put 5 back in and the tank is full up to the top.I was told it could be a relief valve or unloader valve.
I have only ever seen 580D's use same oil for steering as hydraulic - & using tandem hydraulic pump. I just went to Casece to get some pics to assist you with your problem, & found listed a D model that has a seperate steering pump as per the C model......... So which do you have? & are you saying you have filled the hydraulic tank to the very top??? Or steering pump on RHS of engine? 10 gal could never come out of a reservior with a seperate pump....... but you just need to confirm your configeration for advise.
This does not have a power steering pump. The steering runs off the same system as the hydraulics. The tank I am talking about is the tank that holds the hydraulic fluid.
dugano, you could have problems trying to sort this out as the 580D is the only model that has the steering with seperate unloader valve. :spaz Did the steering suddenly stop working or gradually get worse? Does it have a small pilot line between the steering relief & unloader? You will need hyd test gauge & some experience would help..... Hyd spec for unloader is 2200psi minimum - but I can't recall where & how to test, (too many years gone by & I don't have a manual) short of teeing into delivery hose. Steering relief - no pilot pressure = 2050 - 2150psi with pilot pressure = 2850 - 3150psi Check the unloader oring #7 & there will be an orifice in piston #10 - make sure it is clear. Check orings & bu on cartridges on relief as well #14& 15 The needle & seat #10 & 12 could be worn . They are a PITA to adjust as you have to remove the pilot line & adapter to get to adjuster & refit to test Even after looking at all this, the problem could be in the orbital valve ............ :drinkup
Does this mean you replaced the orbital valve on the steering column? Was it new ? There are restrictor fittings on these - just wondering if you had noticed & fitted them in the correct locations.
Used but came off a working machine and we got the rstrictor fittings in the right place
