k.'s Early 90's 580k Just put on a new fan belt successfully. To get good access i removed the hood. Now with hood reinstalled the exhaust stack will not line up and the hold down tabs are about 1-1/2" too far away to keep the hood from popping open Have made sure hood attachment is pushed all the way back and the exhaust stack at the limit of its adjustment. Seems the whole hood needs to move rearward by 1-1/1 "Any advise on what to look for next?
Had the same problem,keep the four bolts loose,then close the hood and line up everything then tighten them,worked for me,good luc.
Did all of the above no joy Hood still 1-1/2" too far forward to close properly nd line up exhaust stack
Did you follow the procedure exactly how it is described to R&R the hood in the service manual ?????
Yes Have manual and its pretty simple to follow. Something is off on the geometry of the hood thats making it not close forward enough by 1-1/2" to 2" to line up the exhaust stack and get the hood tabs close enough to the front for the hold-down. oin to disassemble again and try to align.
Take the bolts out of the hinges, then set the hood where it is supposed to be when it is closed. Perhaps you will then see where the problem is.
Loosen the four bolts on the hardnose. Push on the top of the hardnose to tip it towards the cab. While holding it back get someone to tighten the four bolt. Then leave the hood loose and align it, tighten those bolts. If the hardnose loosens and tips forward the hood will never close right.
Finally took hood completely off, disassembled it, straitened out sheet metal with a little cold metal blacksmithing. Reassembled hood and reinstalled it Worked well hood now lines up and closes properly Tanks to all that helped
