So drained rear fuel filter at the bottom water drain just to do it since been a while. Went to start and wouldn’t crank. Hand pump has 3-4 good pumps then gets soft with the front filter bleed port closed. With front bleed port open fuel comes out solid. So took off rear filter, topped it with fuel, bled out the front port, still wouldn’t crank. Checked at injector lines and has fuel coming to them. Finally, Gas rag at air filter and it cranked up. Ran great. Sat for a few hours, cranked for about 3 seconds, and stalls, then wouldn’t crank back up. Gas rag it and it will crank up and run fine. Where could it be losing prime from? It’s never done this before. Went ahead and ordered both new fuel filters today.
The lift/supply pump.. Check your dip stick for diesel in the fuel..
Won't crank usually means it won't turn over not it won't start. It can be confusing sometimes when diagnosing problems.
Sorry…won’t start. Figured most would be able to read between the lines with the details I gave. Thanks for the clarification.
Most would understand what you meant but there have been a few posts in the past where it's hard to understand if the poster is talking about a starter issue or an engine issue. It's much easier having a clear understanding of what the issue is.
