7.8 Diesel Coolant Filter Housing Flow Direction

Hi, We have a 1992 L8000 with the 7.8 Diesel and someone had taken off the coolant filter housing to be replaced and never took note of the direction of flow. Does it flow from the water pump through the filter to the block or from the block through the filter to the water pump? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ah, the old Brazilian 7.8 L. I'm fairly certain it flows from the water pump to the filter head, filter and then to the water jacket on the side of the block. I operated a lube truck w/Ford chassis with one of those engines back in my oiler days. Listening to Coast-to Coast AM with Art Bell and watching the stars in the Nevada scrub. Trying to stay awake while waiting for the triple sevens, nine-nine twos and seven eighty fives to line up for the shift change. 30 minutes to fuel those hot bitches, grease, check levels, top off the hydraulic tanks and flirt with a couple of the young, chubby female drivers while I got the hours off the hour meter. Drag hose, hook up the wiggins, run up the ladder, pull the 8' long engine oil dipstick, look at the steer oil level sight glass, coolant level, air filter indicators, glance at the engine, get hours, flirt with the ladies, down the ladder, around the other side to look at the hydraulic reservoir, all the suspension cylinders, look at tires, grease everything the auto -lube system wasn't connected to, unhook the fuel wiggins, grab whatever flavor of oil needed from the hose reels, and off to the next one. About 5-7 minutes per truck. Then, head back to the tank farm to top off and enter all the hours and gallons of product. Head back to the pit to take care of squeaky pins or light bulbs. twelve hour shift with a hour commute each way, standby time, don't miss the bus!!. And that's what I know about the 7.8 Ford.

I've got a 1991 F-800 with the 7.8, rebuilt it at 325,000ish miles and threw the coolant filter and housing in the weeds and went to red ELC. The rebuild came about from a dribbling injector that scuffed a piston and cylinder, nothing to do with coolant.

Coaldust thanks soo much for the info and a good laugh! Thoroughly enjoyed a trip back in time with you haha. That's not a bad idea RZ but we have the housing so might as well use it, had to get a new one being someone stripped the threads out on the old one. Not quiet sure how you can manage that...Did that dribbling injector score the piston skirts or put a hole in the piston?

Piston skirt and the cylinder wall on #1, had that bore dry sleeved and a set of new .020" pistons fixed it all up.
